Tune in for a special dramatic reading of Lan's monologue in this chapter! Perrin has his mind set on returning to Emond's Field, to die, alone, but Faile isn't having it. Her (and his) stubborn behavior over the next few chapters is un-endingly frustrating to read, and although it may seem counter intuitive, plot lines like this one are what make Robert Jordan's characters feel so real. They are flawed individuals, who are often terrible at communicating in general, stubborn to the point of obstinance, and prone to refuse help from their friends and allies out of pride or misplaced distrust. The tension between Faile and Perrin, is mirrored by a similar tension between Lan and Nynaeve. At the end of these tense scenes, Perrin, Gaul, Bain, Chiad, Faile, and Loial ready for their journey through the ways, Lan Moiraine will follow Rand to the Aiel waste, and Nynaeve and Elayne head to Tanchico by ship.
